To Kill a Mockingbird
Important Characters
Atticus Finch
Father of Jem and Scout and a lawyer in the Maycomb community. Taught his children to have a strong sense of morality and justice. Becomes Tom Robison's lawyer, moral backbone of novel.
Jem Finch
Scouts older brother. He is a typical American boy who dreams of being a football player, because of the 4 year age gap between him and Scout, he changes from being a playmate to more of a close friend and protector.
Scout Finch
Narrator and protagonist of the story. Daughter of Atticus and little sister of Jem. Intelligent and a tomboy, her faith in the goodness of people tested by the trials of the novel involving hatred and prejudice.
Arthur "Boo" Radley
Mysterious Character in novel; he is a man who never sets foot outside of his house. Is one of the "Mockingbirds" , a good person damaged by the evils of mankind.
Mayella Ewell
Bob Ewell's daughter. She is abused, unhappy and lonely. Accuses Tom Robinson of rape.

Plot
In To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee uses memorable characters to explore civil rights and racism in the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. Told through the eyes of Scout Finch, you learn about her father Atticus Finch, an attorney who hopelessly strives to prove the innocence of a black man unjustly accused of rape; and about Boo Radley, a mysterious neighbor who saves Scout and her brother Jem from being killed.
