Topologies
Bus
Star
Ring
Every machine in a bus topology is connected to a shared cable known as the backbone, signals are passed along each way via the backbone cable. This means that the physical layout of the computers is in a line.
Disadvantages
IF more than 12 devices are connected to the network then the performance of the network is degraded.
IF there is a break in the backbone cable, then the network cannot be used until it is fixed.
Advantages
Cost effective because of the small amount of cable needed
Simple cable runs make it easy to install
Easy to add extra devices to the network
There is no server
All the computers are arranged in a circle.
Data sent between computers will pass through other systems until it reaches the correct system
It isn't dependent on a central machine
All computers have the same access privileges
any break in the network affects all other systems
Advantages
Faults are hard to find
You cannot perform a central backup
Advantages
Disadvantages
Star uses a central connection that supports all of the machines on the network.
