testicular cancer

pathophysiology
testicular tumors may develop from the cellular components of the testis. testicular gem tumors are always malignant.
management
treatment includes surgical removal of the testes and radiation therapy. emotional support is needed in cases of anxiety and fear about their sexual functioning.
epididymitis

pathophysiology
painful swelling of the scrotum occurs, which may be unilateral or bilateral. patient may be ill with fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting
management
bed rest, scrotal support, prescribed analgesics for pain and antibiotics for infection. incision and drainage may be required in case of an abscess.
testicular torsion
pathophysiology
the testis twist on the spermatic cord, thus interrupting its blood supply. the torsion causes ischaemia to the testes lading to necrosis.
management
this is an emergency, it requires surgical intervention where they untwist the cord and immobilize the testes by suturing the scrotum.
occurs when a testicle is mobile and the spermatic cord twists, cutting off the blood supply
undescended testes
pathophysiology
testes deviates from the normal descent route or fail to go all the way to the scrotum. sometimes the testicles descend to the scrotum, but pull back into the inguinal canal
management
undescended testicles resolve spontaneously by the first year of life. usually they descend and stay in the scrotum during puberty without surgical intervention
occurs when the testes fail to descend from the abdomen into the scrotum before or shortly after birth.
