In 2000, Nobel Prize winning scientist Paul Crutzen proposed to consider the era of humans' effect on Earth the Anthropocene Epoch. Withe the help of the international commission on stratigraphy (ICS), scientist have helped spread the popularity of the term used to characterize a new era.
