Short Story Terms
Plot
The main events of a novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence.
Climax
The most intense, exciting, or important point of something.
Exposition
A comprehensive description and explanation of an idea or theory
Internal Conflict
The struggle occurring within a character's mind.
Foil
Prevent something considered wrong or undesirable, from succeeding
Conflict
A serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one.
Protagonist
The leading character or one of the major characters in a novel, movie, or other fictional text.
Charecter
The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual
Falling Action
After the climax, wraps up the narrative, resolves its loose ends, and leads to the closure.
Antagonist
A person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary
External Conflict
A problem, antagonism, or struggle that takes place between a character and an outside force.
Rising Action
Series of relevant incidents that create suspense, interest, and tension in a narrative.
Resolution
Finding the solution to the conflict or problem.
3rd Person Limited
The reader only knows the thoughts and feelings of one character.
Point Of View
The position from which something or someone is observed.

Point of view in which the narrator knows all the thoughts and feelings of every character.
Flashback
A scene in a movie or novel set in a time earlier than the main story.
Foreshadow
Warning or indication of the future.
