Short Story Terms
Rising Action: A series of relevant incidents that create suspense, interest, and tension in a narrative.
Falling Action:Falling action occurs right after the climax, when the main problem of the story resolves.
Resolution: The final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved.
Climax: The most intense, exciting, or important point of something; a culmination or apex.

Character: A person in a novel, play, or movie.
Protagonist: The leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
Example: Mitch in "Tuesdays With Morrie"
Antagonist: A person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary. Example: Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter"

Conflict: A serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one.
External Conflict: The struggle that takes place between the main character and some outside force.
Example" Morrie's illness in "Tuesdays with Morrie"
Internal Conflict: An internal conflict is the struggle occurring within a character's mind. Things such as the character views for, but can't quite reach.
Example: Mitch calling his brother
Plot: The main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence.
Scenes: A sequence of continuous action in a play, movie, opera, or book.
