MENs Project
How
Partnerships - Focusing on partnerships with men's grooming, Men's Warehouse & Legacy Golf Resort to provide instructional classes/services to MEN's members.
Donations - Many companies/organizations will support the idea of investing into the future generations that will eventually be their employees. Look into the community surrounding SMCC especially.
Fundraising - Members should brainstorm their ideas of how to raise money, if they do not have to work for this culminating event, it will seem like another given award. Instead, they should recognize that working for a cause can reap more rewards than they assume.
Budgets - What does SMCC/The MCCD actually allocate for these MEN's chapters? What is the money actually used on? Potentially create new budget.
Grants - Research reoccurring grants that are awarded for projects like this. Teach the members how to write these grants so that they can continue to apply.
Who
Men's Warehouse - Used to create partnership and allow members of MENs chapter to attend a fitting session/receive a suit or clothes.
Legacy Golf Resort - Used to create partnership and allow members of MENs chapter to attend a formal dining session. Will learn how to eat in a professional manner/setting.
Million Dollar Company Director - Used to act as a mentor/give insight as to how he build a nonprofit organization that had such a huge impact on youth in education. Also potential guest speaker.
Graduating members of the Male Empowerment Network. Project will be used as a reward for those who are graduating and an incentive for those still in school to continue their education.
What
How to be a young male after college - Big idea for the project. Members will learn how to act and present themselves in the working world.
Curriculum - Should the MENs current curriculum be altered so that they have background information before this project date? Or should they just learn it during the actual event? What would be the curriculum?
"MEN's Day OUT" - Overarching idea of what this project will be titled. Essentially each graduating MEN member will partake in activities that prepares them for the professional world, more than a degree would. These activities will help develop soft skills that are hard to develop without help. Ideas include: Male grooming, dining ettiquette, formal dressing.
When
To be complete by the end of the year. It will then be implemented within a month before graduation.
Will continue to be done every single year for college graduates. This will allow the graduates to look forward to receiving an award from the chapter. Most MEN members attend a conference once a semester but there is no tangible items or materials that the members receive.
Complete timeline for the project pending 1) Attend October chapter meeting 2) Market the idea on flyers so that a tangible item can be handed when reaching out to partner organizations 3) Reach out to partner organization (NLT end of November) 4) Complete organization of the plan and schedule date, reserve space, etc.
Where
The primary chapter of MEN that I will be working with is located at South Mountain Community College.
By the end of the year, my supervisor and I hope that the whole Maricopa Community College District will adopt this project in all of the MENs chapters. We will present our results to the MENs Director at the end of the year.
During the Fall and Spring semester MENs conference, I will collaborate with the other MENs chapters advisors/presidents and see what their thoughts of this project are.
Why
They have the credentials but not the actual know how. These members come from low SES backgrounds so their parents may not be in their lives or they may not have a role model figure to mirror. Males coming from low SES backgrounds are often unprepared for life in the workforce.
