is the inflammation of the testicles
is an acute infection of the testicles
it is usually caused by a bacterial infection or by the mumps infection

it may be a complication of mumps
it may be caused by an injury
may be caused by irritation
infectious diseases e.g influenza, pneumonia
signs and symptoms
pain ranging from mild to severe
tenderness in one or two testicle
swelling in one or two testicle
fever
nausea and vomiting
pathophysiology
infection may cause reddeened scrotal skin and oedema
extreme tenderness of the testes and fever
acute phase may last for a week
chronic sterility may occur if both testes are affected
whereas decreased fertility if only one is affected
management
scrotal support
keeping patient on bed rest
administration of analgesics for pain
administration of prescribed antibiotics e.g doxycycline
testes trauma
urethral surgery
