Pathophysiology
• Preputial ring & oedema increase penile weight causing rectration reluctance
• Irritation occurs on the exposed tissue
• Oedema with penis & prepuce occurs
• Damaged tissue develops fibrosis
• Penile exposure for a long time impairs venous & lymphatic drainage
• Heavy tissue weight cause pudendal nerve damage resulting in paralysis
Causes
• May occur due to masturbation
• Sexual intercourse
• Catheter insertion
• Cystoscopy
• Cleaning of glans penis
Nursing management
Soak in warm water
encourage circumcision
Careful cleaning of prepuial ring and glans
Careful attempt of returning foreskin to its position
administer analgesics to relieve pain
Rest in a supine position
Use ice packs to compress swelling
