BLOOD TESTING

URINE TESTING

May reveal kidney stones in the urinary tract, simple abdominal x-rays may not show small stones.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Renal colic resulting due to nephrolithiasis is secondary to blocking the collecting system by the stone.
The expanding of the collecting system or ureter is a resultant to an increase in intraluminal pressure.
This leads to nerve endings being stretched leading to sensation of renal colic and urinary stone disease.
