Urinary stasis in the bladder result in gradual dilation of the ureters,kidneys &urinary infection of varying intensity
Hypertrophied prostate gland in an obstruction in the urethra
Nursing interventions
Monitor vital signs to detect hypovolemia
Administer IV fluids as needed to prevent hypovolemia
Encourage use of sitz bath ,warm soaks to perineum to promotes muscle relaxation
Encourage the patient to void every 2-4 hours and when urge is noted this may minimize urinary retention
Percuss and palpate suprapubic area to feel if the bladder is distended or not
