KEYBOARDS:

USES: input of data into applications software

ADVANTAGES: easy for people to use and fast entry of new into a document.

DISADVANTAGES: difficult for someone with limited are use to use.

NUMERIC KEYPADS

USES: ATMs and chip and PIN devices when paying b debit or credit.

ADVANTAGES: faster than standard keyboard when entering numeric data and portable.

DISADVANTAGES: has small keys which can make input more difficult.

POINTING DEVICES

MOUSE

USES: opening, closing and minimising software, and grouping, moving and deleting files.

ADVANTAGES: faster way to choose an option than using a keyboard and is quick to navigate through apps and the internet.

DISADVANTAGES: difficult to use if no flat surface is readily available and is easy to damage.

TOUCH PAD

USES: can work as a mouse

ADVANTAGES: same as mouse an is more portable tan using a mouse

DISADVANTAGES: can be difficult to use compared to a mouse and difficult to use doing certain operations.

TRACKBALL

USES: used in apps when the user has a disability and used in cars to select functions such as the radio, telephone, music...

ADVANTAGES: doesn't need the same fine control as a mouse and needs less desk space than a mouse or keyboard.

DISADVANTAGES: not supplied with computers as standard, therefore more costly and use may need training .

REMOTE CONTROL

USES: used to control multimedia systems and to control TV, DVD players...

ADVANTAGES: can be used from a long distance.

DISADVANTAGES: difficult to use if the user has limited hand movement and easy to block signal.

JOYSTICKS

USES: used in video games and simulators.

ADVANTAGES: easier than a keyboard and control is more realistic.

DISADVANTAGES: more difficult to use than a mouse.

DRIVING WHEEL

USES: used in video games and in simulators.

ADVANTAGES: easier than a keyboard and a joystick, and the "driving experience" is better.

DISADVANTAGES: can be more expensive than a mouse or joystick and the steering wheel might give an unrealistic "feel".

TOUCH SCREENs

USES: interactive white board in education and in ATMs

DISADVANTAGES: limited number of options available and the screen can get very dirty

ADVANTAGES: easy method for choosing options and user friendly- no training necessary.

SCANNER

To scan documents, photographs and barcodes at POS terminals.

ADVANTAGES: images can be stored for editing at a later date and more faster and accurate than typing in documents again.

DISADVANTAGES: quality can be limited by the scanners resolution and can be fairly slow.

DIGITAL CAMERAS AND VIDEO CAMERAS

ADVANTAGES: easier to produce better-quality photographs and easier and faster to upload photographs to a computer than having to scan it.

DISADVANTAGES: resolution isn't has good as traditional cameras and need a computer to use cameras properly.

USES: to take photos

MICROPHONES

ADVANTAGES: faster to read text than no type it in using a keyboard and can improve safety.

DISADVANTAGES: sound files can use up a lot of storage and voice-recognition isnt as accurate as typing in manually.

USES: to input speech/ sound to be used in various apps and used in video conferencing.

SENSORS

ADVANTAGES: more accurate reading taken when compared to human operations and reading are continuous- no breaks in the monitoring.

DISADVANTAGES: faulty sensors can give spurious results.

USES/ TYPES: temperature, pressure, light, sound, humidity, pH.
