explain nanotechnology
the study and use of materials at length scales between 1 nm - 100 nm which can be compared to a human hair which is 80,000 nm wide .

Implications
positive
researchers have been working with harvard and MIT have attached speacial RNA strands which are attracted to cancer cells and when the nanoparticle meets a cancer cell it releases the drug into the cancer cell and this method has great chance of curing cancer and has less side harmful effects. as compared to chemotherapy because those drugs are not able to accuratelty hit their targeted cells.
Micro/Nano ElectroMechanical Systems are used to activate the air bags in cars is done by MEMS which helps in close integrarion of mechanical mechanism with neseccart electronic circuit on a single silicon chip

nano sized particles of carbons are really strong and an example of the strength of nanosized particles of carbon is the bullet proof vest which are made with carbon nanotubes
properties of many elements change when they are kept at nanoscale it is beacause nanoparticles have greater surface are per weight then large particles and are more reactive then other molecules. an example would be how iron particles can be very helpful in the cleanup of chemicals in groundwater.
negetives
The use of nanoparticles as drug carriers may reduce the toxicity of the incorporated drug but it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the toxicity of the drug from that of the nanoparticle. Toxicity of gold nanoparticles, for instance, has been shown at high concentrations. In addition, nanoparticles trapped in the liver can affect the function of this organ.
