Pharmacology - Immunotherapy
*Immunotherapy Drugs
used for cancer
used for auto-immune diseases
*Immunosupression Drugs
used for cancer
used for auto-immune diseases
*Purine Synthesis Inhibitor immunosupressants
azathioprine
mycophenolate
Alopurinol causes toxicity with azathioprine
*Corticosteroids
Prednisone
Corticosteroids Side effects
ALL WBCs go down
--> EXCEPT neutrophils!!
high dose Corticosteroids cause Neutrocytosis = high neutrophils in blood
this is fake though since high dose prednisone actually causes the release of the marginal pool of neutrophils from the lungs
these are about 50% and even thought he neutrophil count SEEMS raised, you are depleting the marginal pool and if you were to get an infection you wouldn't have enough neutrophils to fight it off
*Activation of T cells
T cell Co stimulation / regulation
-->
Th cell rule of 7 x 4 = 28
--> B7 on APC binds
--> CD28 on Th cell = co STIMULATE
--> CTLA-4 on Th cell = co REGULATE
--> separate PD-1 on Th cell = co REGULATE
Th cell *rule of 7 x 4 = 28 for T cell CO stimulators/regulators
B7 on APC binds
--> CD28 on Th cell = co STIMULATE
--> CTLA-4 on Th cell = co REGULATE
separate PD-1 on Th cell = co REGULATE
*Mabs blockers for PD and CTLA-4 = Cancer Immunotherapy
used in melanoma and RCC
PD-1 blocker = pembrolizumab
*Mabs = Monoclonal Antibodies
"OX ZU"
Notes:
omab = "of mouse" antibody
ximab = "xike a mouse" antibody
zumab = "humanized" antibody
umab = "human" antibody
