Strategic Change Management (model)
seeks an alignment among an O's strategy, structure and human resource systems and a fit between them and the O's environment
composed of
**technical, political
and
cultural systems**
political system
resolves the allocation problem
how to distribute resources and power, including reward system, career succession, budgets and power structure
cultural system
is design to solve the value/belief problem
what values members share, what objectives should be pursued and so forth
technical system
is deisgned to solve the O's production problems
it includes the mission, strategy, and O'al structure necessary to become effective
Strategic change management involves the alignment of these systems to meet environmental pressures
three basic managerial tools - O'al strategy, O'al structure and human resource management may be used to align the three systems with one another and with the larger environment
three steps to strategic change
the three systems are separated and intervention occurs in each one
because the systems tend to be mutually reinforcing, it is necessary to unlock the from one another before strategic change can occur
a plan for reconnecting the three system is developed
this determines how it will achieve the desire state in the strategic vision
develop an image of desired O' with the technical, political and cultural systems aligned
change must start with a strategic vision of a desired O'al state
vision should include a futuristic view of each of the three systems as well as what the O' will look like when the systems are aligned
