Historical understanding
7 concepts of historical understanding
Evidence f
Information gathered from historical sources. For example interviews, letters, films, maps, newspapers, objects, buildings, paintings.
Empathy
It helps us to understand the impact of past events on individual group and ability to 'walk in someone shoes'.
Cause and effect
It is used to identify chains of events and developments in short term and long term ( cause= why and effect= what effected it ).
Significance
The importance assigned to aspects of the past and to determine if events, development, that a person is significant to ask a question.
Continuity and change
Overtime some things stay the same while other things change and can be seen across every civillivation and any given period of time.
Contestability
It relates to explanations or interperations that are open to debate.
Perspectives
People have different points of view about events depending on age,gender,social position beliefs and values.
