referral process for special education in a cram school
Background of the school
The school I'm working at now is a cram school in Qingdao China. We don't offer special education or aren't equipped with the professional personnel to deal with the problem. So I designed this chart to see how to help the students seek help within school and outside school.
ESL teacher observes the students
students show the signs of struggling
meet with the parents
work together to identify the children's strengths and weakness
understand the situation at home
staff meeting to develop action plans
try out the intervention plans
e.g. move the students to a lower level class
evaluate the plan
If the plan is effective, the class continues with the plan. Hold future meetings as needed
If the plan doesn't bring the desired change
try another plan or alter the current one
refer the child to special education evaluation and find out if this student is eligible for special education
use differentiated instructions in class
give students easier tasks
spend more time after class to assist the student
use informal formative assessment to evaluate the progress that the student has made
