Case Study: Jacob Off task-disruptive
Tier 1
Interventions
Give choices
Giving choices is new strategy I have been utilizing in my classroom to address J when he is being defiant. Redirecting a student by posing a choice has been much more effective than simply restating directions.
Proximity
Proximity is an incredibly valuable tool for high school students. It is a great non-verbal strategy that allows the student to self correct without bringing the student potentially unwanted attention.
Praise when on task
Most defiant students are simply looking for attention and approval. Praise a great strategy to show them how to get positive attention.
