Coventions
Setting or location: A films setting can help us to tell a films genre, for example 'western' films are usually set in the American outback, a sci-fi film would be set in space.
Mise-en-scene: A french term meaning 'put into the scene', this includes costumes, hair, makeup-up, and props.
Narrative: A films 'story, or plot', for example boy meets girl would indicate romance.
Iconohraphy: Icons that help us to identify the genre, for example, icons of western genre include horses and guns.
