Give all students a project checklist. This is especially effective with lower-level students, who generally need very specific, detailed instructions. Breaking down assignments into smaller bits, with a sort of time line, each with its own due date, can encourage students to stay on track for longer activities, as well as provide feedback that progress is being made.
