Tone and Mood - Death of a Naturalist
Mood is the emotional effect that the text creates for the reader/listener.
Happiness (Daddy frog was called a bullfrog)
Freedom (Dragonflies, spotted butterflies)
Mild
Fear (The spawn would clutch it)
Discomfort (Punishing Sun)
Disgust (Blunt heads farting)
Repugnant (Cowdung in the grass)
The mood from the poem can be considered as something really happy and good at the beginning but then as something ugly, disgust or repugnant.
Tone is the attitude from the writer or speaker towards the subject . :
Horror
Emotional
Enthusiastic
Serious
Calm
Rational
Juvenile (Mainly during the first stanza)
Thoughtful
Guilt
Tension (During the second stanza)
In summary the tone of the poem starts with a very sunny and happy tone which shows a kid with positive feelings. Although when it starts evolving through the poem it changes to dark and negative
