Specific Functions
Securing for the carrying out of
Construction
Improvement
And maintenance works on national roads
Preparing, or arranging for the preparation of
Road Designs
Maintenance programmes
and Schemes for the provision of trafffic signs on national roads
Allocating and paying GRANTS for national roads.
Training, research and testing activities related to any of its functions
Other Arrangements
Section 57 of the Roads Act, as amended by Planning and Development Act 2000, allowed the NRA to prepare a scheme for the establishment of a system of tolls in respect of the use of a public road.
The NRA may also enter into an agreement whereby another person (organisation) agrees, inter alia, to pay some or all of the cost of the construction and/or maintenance and/or to upgrade and/or management the road.

Entering into contract for and/or undertaking specified construction and maintenance works.
The PRIMARY FUNCTION of NRA was ''to secure the provision of a safe and efficient network of national roads''.
