CONFUSIONAL DISORDERS
NURSING MANAGEMENT
1 DON'T RESTRICT. Patients become aggressive, agitated and fight against any limitations
2 DON'T INTO CONFLICT. If the patient is convinced they are right, circumvent the issue and distract them rather than correct them.
The management of the demented person requires a multifaceted approach. The care giver should be reminded that care depends on the four don'ts:
3 DON'T JUDGE. Dementia is a disease, not a crime- the patient should not be subjected to punishment for their mistakes
4 DON'T EVICT. Feeling secure is a key to management. try not to change the environment unless no alternatives are available.
Provide personal care, safe environment especially in early stages where they are anxious and depressed

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
- Vascular disease is mainly caused by hardening of the arteries( atherosclerosis) due to a thickening of the artery lining from the fatty deposits or plaque.
- Vascular disease may manifest acutely when thrombi, or acute trauma compromises perfusion. Thrombosis are often of an athermanous nature and occur in the lower extremities more frequently than in the upper extremities. Multiple factors predispose patients to thrombosis. These factors includes sepsis, hypotension, low cardiac output, aneurysms, aortic dissection, bypass grafts and underlying atherosclerotic narrowing of arterial lumen
- Dementia is a symptom of a variety of specific structural brain diseases as well as several system degenerations Alzheimer's disease presently is the commonest cause of the developed world, causing a cortical-subcortical degeneration of ascending cholinergic neurons and large pyramidal cells in the cerebral cortex
DEMENTIA: is not a specific disease, but is a group of conditions characterized by impaired of atleast two brain functions, such as memory loss and judgement.
