Dick and Carey Model / Systems Approach Model
Step 1:
Identify Instructional Goals
= Identify what students need to learn.
Step 2:
Conduct Instructional Analysis
= Determining skills that your students will need to learn what you plan to teach them
Step 3: Identify Entry Behaviors
= Assess which skills the students have out of those that you previously determined are needed for this lesson.
Step 4: Write Performance Objectives
= Figure out specific goals and detailed objectives for the lesson (Student Will Be Able To)
Step 5: Develop Assessment Instruments
= Create a test (Consistent with the performance objectives) that will reflect what you are hoping to teach the students. These are meant to help students understand what they have or have not mastered yet.
Step 6: Develop Instructional Strategy
= Outline your lesson plan. Demonstrate what you want them to learn, add activities, and decide how each segment will be done.
Step 7: Develop and Select Instructional Materials
= Make sure you have what you need ready for the lesson. If you already have something you already know will work, use it. It doesn't extend to only objects for the lesson (if you giving a test make sure its printed and ready to go)
Step 8: Design and Conduct Formative Evaluation
= Identify areas in the instructional material that need improvement before releasing the instruction for actual use..
Step 9: Design and Conduct Summative Evaluation
= Revise. Judge the worthiness of the entire program with the focus being on the outcome: Did it work as intended? Continue the evaluation after each class or training activity to determine if it can be approved.

Is
systematic
in nature = Done according to a
fixed plan
This is a procedural system including
10 major process components
(
9 steps
in a cycle +
1 evaluation
of the effectiveness of the entire instruction).
Most popular in
Schools
and
Educational
Environment
Similarities
of Addie and Dick and Carey: They both focuses on the key elements
Input
,
Output
and
process of designing the curriculum
Dick and Carey
differentiates
form Addie in that it is
more straight forward
, it has
10 phases
not 5 and
evaluation
is conducted at
every phase
with an additional evaluation in the
final phase
.
Advantages
Dick and Carey: 1.
Steps won't be missed
because of its detailed and straight forward design, 2.
Provides guidance
throughout the design process, 3.
Adjusts well for changes and amendments
, 4. Emphasis
organizing training content
.
Disadvantages
of Dick and Carey: 1. Can be more
time consuming
because of its many steps, 2.
None of the steps can be skipped
because they all are essential.
