Nursing Care Plan
Nursing Assessment
Physical examination; abdominal palpation to detect pain, tenderness and obstruction location
-
Auscultation; detect bowel sound pitch, location of sound
Nursing Diagnosis
-
-
-
-
Deficient fluid volume due to vomiting, fever and diarrhoea
-
Nursing Interventions
Assess the level of pain, location, intensity, duration

Pathophysiology
In simple mechanical obstruction ingested fluid and food, digestive secretions, and gas accumulate above the obstruction
-
Development of abdominal distention results in reduction of fluids absorbed and an increase in intestinal secretion
Resulting to an increase in intestinal secretions and lumen pressure making the bowel wall oedematous
An increase in the capillary permeability allows extravasation of fluids and electrolytes into the peritoneal cavity
-
Arterial blood flow slows down causing necrosis which eventually leads to intestinal wall rupture or perforation
