Disorders Of The Gall Badder
Cholecystitis
Risk Factors
Having gallstones is the main risk factor for developing cholecystitis.
Signs and Symptoms
Severe pain in your upper right or center abdomen
Pain that spreads to your right shoulder or back
Tenderness over your abdomen when it's touched
Nausea
Vomiting
Fever
Causes
Blood vessel problems.
Infection.
Bile duct blockage.
Tumor.
Gallstones.
Pathophysiology
Gallstones are the cause of acute cholecystitis. The process is one of physical obstruction of the gallbladder by a gallstone, at the neck or in the cystic duct. This obstruction results in increased pressure in the gallbladder.
Definition
Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder that occurs most commonly because of an obstruction of the cystic duct by gallstones arising from the gallbladder (cholelithiasis).
Treatment
fasting to rest the gallbladder
a special, low-fat diet
pain medication
antibiotics to treat infection
Surgery
Prevention
Lose weight slowly.
Maintain a healthy weight.
Choose a healthy diet.
Diagnosis
Radiography
Computed tomography (CT)
Ultrasonography
Hepatobiliary scintigraphy
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Chronic Cholecystitis
Pathophysiology
Occlusion of the cystic duct or malfunction of the mechanics of the gallbladder emptying is the pathophysiology of this disease.
Risk Factors
changing of hormones
Rapid weight loss or weight gain
Gallstones are more common in women than in men.
diabetes
Obesity
Diagnosis
CT scan
abdominal ultrasound
Blood tests
cholescintigraphy
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
Prevention
reducing how much fat you eat.
Regular exercise
maintaining a healthy weight.
Causes
gallbladder activity
dietary habits
weight
tumors in the liver or pancreas
genetic predisposition
Treatment
oral dissolution therapy using medications
pain relievers
broad-spectrum antibiotics for fighting infection
Laparoscopy
Definition
Cholecystitis is the sudden inflammation of your gallbladder. If this condition persists over time, such as for months, with repeated attacks, or if there are recurrent problems with gallbladder function, it’s known as chronic cholecystitis.
Signs And Symptoms
abdominal cramping and bloating
pain that spreads to your back or below your right shoulder blade
fever
chills
severe abdominal pains that may feel sharp or dull
loose, light-colored stools
Cholelithiasis
Causes
Your gallbladder doesn't empty correctly.
Your bile contains too much bilirubin.
Your bile contains too much cholesterol.
Diagnosis
Complete blood count (CBC)
Liver function panel
Abdominal radiography (upright and supine)
Laparoscopic ultrasonography
Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)
Amylase
Lipase
Definition
Cholelithiasis is the presence of solid concretions in the gallbladder.
Signs and Symptoms
Pain that begins postprandially
Pain that is constant
Pain that is localized to the epigastrium or right upper quadrant, sometimes radiating to the right scapular tip
Sporadic and unpredictable episodes
RISK Factors
Being female
Being age 40 or older
Being overweight or obese
Being pregnant
Losing weight very quickly
Having liver disease
Having diabetes
Pathophysiology
Prevention
Don't skip meals.
Eat more high-fiber foods.
Lose weight slowly.
Maintain a healthy weight.
Treatment
Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy
Oral bile salt therapy (ursodeoxycholic acid)
definitive surgical intervention
