Definition
Persistent inflammation of the gall bladder
Causes
By stones which are always present
Chronic irritation of the gall bladder
Result from repeated attacks of acute cholecystitis
Clinical manifestations
Leukocyte count is low
Pain is less severe
Dyspepia
Vague symptoms of discomfort
Flatulence
Fat intolerance
Vomiting and nausea
Pathophysiology
Mucosal lining become oedematous
Results from irritation by the concentrated bile from stasis
Hyperaemic and ischaemic due to venous congestion
Persistant inflammation of the gall bladder
Lymphatic stasis leading to marked gall bladder distension
Whole process cause gangrene and perforation of gall bladder
Severe scarring of of the gall bladder may results

Nursing management
Encourage weight reduction
Maintain adequate intake of fluids
Explains the importance of avoiding alcohol consumption
Monitor vital signs
Monitor electrolytes in case of diarrhoea
