DEFINITION
It is the inflammation and infection of the vagina, a muscular canal running from cervix to the outside of the body lined by mucous membrane.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Vaginitis is the most common gynaecologic condition. It is diagnosed based on the presence of abnormal discharge. Discharge flows from vagina daily as body's way of maintaining a normal healthy environment. A change in colour, amount, or smell; irritation; or itching or burning could indicate an imbalance of healthy bacteria in the vagina and thus causing vaginitis.
