ACUTE PANCREATITIS
NURSING MANAGEMENT
administer analgesics (pethidine) as prescribed.
advice patient to lie on right hand side
assess pain to avoid analgesics usage.
to relieve tension on abdomen.
keep patient on parinetal nutrition.
avoid fats and caffeine in diet.
nasogastric suction to prevent abdominal distention.
IV plasma and 0,9% saline for fluid replacement.
antiemetic (metoclopride) for vomiting.
monitor vital signs to prevent complications
fowlers position for ease of breathing.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
alcohol use causes pancreatitis.
bacterial or viral infections cause acute pancreatitis.

SIGNS AND SMYPTOMS
a rigid abdomen
ecchymosis around the ambilicus.
abdominal guarding.
hypotension and hypovolemia.
tenderness and back ache.
respiratory distress.
severe abdominal pains.

blood studies such as haematocrit and haemoglobin levels
ultrasound
X-ray studies
