Vaginitis
Defination
Is an inflammation of the vagina that can result in discharge.
Symptoms
Vaginal itching.
Pain during intercourse.
Painful urination.
Light vaginal bleeding.
Causes
Candidiasis.
Trichomoniasis.
Gonorrhea.
Chlamydia.
Pathophysiology
The overgrowth of normally present bacteria infecting bacteria causes symptoms of vaginitis.
Chemical irritation also can be a significant factor.
Loss of vaginal actobacilli appears to be the primary factor in the change leading to vaginosis.
Diagnostic test
Pelvic exam.
Review medical history.
Pharmacological management
Administer antihistamines.
Topical estrogen cream.
Cortisone ream.
Health education
wipe from front to back after using toilet.
Avoid hot tubs.
Avoid irritants.
Nursing care plan
Advise patient to not use soap if bathing private parts.
Advise patient to reduce times of doing sexual intercourse.
Advise patient to eat balanced diet.
Monitor intake and output.
Administer medication as prescribed.
Salpingitis
Defination
Is an inflammation of fallopian tubes
Symptoms
Fever.
Lower back pain.
Abdominal pain on both slides.
Pain during ovulation.
Abnormal vaginal discharge.
Causes
Chlamydia.
Gonococcus.
Mycoplasma.
Staphylococcus.
Streptococcus.
Pathophysiology
Almost all cases are caused by bacteria infection.
The inflammation prompts extra fluid secretion inside fallopian tube.
Infection of one tube leads to infection of another.
Without prompt treatment the fallopian tube might be permanently damaged.
Pharmacological management
Antibiotics.
Hospitalisation.
Diagnostic test
Blood and urine tests.
Swab test of vagina.
Hysterosalpingogram.
Nursing care plan
Advice patient to avoid strenuous activities.
Advise patient to drink plenty of water.
Advise patient to avoid bathing with soap in vagina.
Administer medication as prescribed.
Health education
Advice patient to peform personal hygiene.
Advise patient to eat balanced diet.
Important of follow up.
Take medication as prescribed.
Oopharitis
Defination
Is an inflammation of the ovaries.
Symptoms
Pain in lower abdomen.
Bleeding between menstrual cycle.
Pain during intercourse.
Difficult urinating.
Causes
During abortion.
After a miscarriage.
During childbirth.
Intrauterine device.
Pathophysiology
Infection descend from bacterial colonization of the cervix and extends to the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovary.
Gonorrhea and chlamydia typically are colonized from cervix in case of oophoritis.
This pathogens rarely isolated in ovarian tissues.
If left untreated an abscess may form around the fallopian tube and ovary.
Diagnostic test
Blood and urine test.
Pelvic exam.
Pelvic ultrasound.
Laparoscopy.
Pharmacological management
Antibiotics.
Hospitalisation.
Nursing care plan
Advice patient to be always in a comfortable position.
Advise patient to have sufficient rest.
Administer medication as prescribed by the doctor.
