DEFFINITION-red itchy rash casued by direct contact with an allergen
MANANGEMENT
avoid using the allergen
avoid using irritants
identify the cause of the allergy
pat dry skin
CAUSES
allergic reaction to toothpaste
allergic reaction on the lips
Dry or irritable lips
exposure of the skin to dryness
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
haptens penetrate the epidermis
dendritic cells migrate draining lymph nodes
specific cells expand t-cells expand resulting in the rash
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES
skin biopsy to defferentiate from other test
patch test-to diagnose certain types of allergies
DIET

food rich in vitamin A
PHARMACOLOGICAL THERAPY
corticosteriods
barrier creams(ivy guard)
