TRENCH MOUTH
DEFFINITION- grey white pseudomembranous ulcerations found at gum egdes
CAUSES
poor oral hygiene
Fusiform bacteria
vitamin and C DEFICIENCY
Stress as predesposing factor
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Swollen and bleeding gums
metalic taste if saliva
foetid mouth odour
eroding and necrotic lesions of interdental papilla
MANANGEMENT
Remove devitalised tissue
Do peroxide mouthwash
follow good oral hygiene
avoid spicy food to releive pain
removal of dead tissue(debridment)
DIET
Eat food with plenty of vitamin B and c
Avoid spicy food
avoid citrus foods eg tomatoes and oranges
PHARMACOLOGICAL TREATMENT
Antibacterial mouth wash( listerine)
administer analgesics e.g paracetamol
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Bacteria multiply producing harmful bacteria in the mouth
soft tissue of the gums gets damaged
hence ulcers are formed and they bleed
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES
Dental x-ray to determine severity of desease
Blood test to find the type of bacteria affecting the gums
throat swab culture test-
clinical examination of teeth and gums
