Observing
Observe non verbal communication (eye contact, movement, expression, etc) & content of words used

Pay close attention to what the employee is saying, show him interest n concern, to encourage him to share, check for understanding frequently

Questioning & probing
Probing - a skill to get down to the specific. Helps employee to explore the situation in a way to make them more concrete. Use open ended questions to make them share more specific experiences & behaviours.
