dermatologists were not at all needed
it was entirely abt free will - nothing was forced on us
the first test to come to Australia was a test of your english (IELTS)
The US equivalent of the IELTS is the TOEFL
the standards change depending on the need for skilled migrants - for him he needed to get a minimum of a band 7
this test was valid for two years for entry into the commonwealth countries
he had already passed this test in 96 when applying for entry into the UK, but it was no longer valid
consisted of four sections
listening, reading, speaking, writing
there are multiple types of visas which a person can apply for
he applied for a working visa (457)
to apply for this visa he had to have a job offer - he had a phone interview with South West Sydney
While applying for the job in SWS he also reapplied for the UK
Both the institution and the Hospital were at the phone interview - the hospital already gave him their approval so he just needed the University's
they refused him on a technicality - he had six years of training in psychiatry (3 in general and 3 specialized child psychiatry) but the requirement was 5 years specialized
when we came
04 december 2005 - 9pm
how much english did you speak when you came here
more english than most - went through his formal education in an english medium (meaning all his classes were taught in english)
why
a variety of factors - mostly to do with quality of life in india
work hours - 8am to 9pm minimum
you would know all your patients - private sector is quite tight-knit which leads to conflict between patient's best interests and your own (in the cases when the patient is a higher-up in the profession)
private work doesn't pay well in india - the medicine industry is less powerful than the pharmaceutical industry - most profits go to the pharmacies
little to no professional satisfaction
what made australia seem better than the other options
how did you feel about moving out of india and away from family
what your opinion was on the country
what the environment was like when you arrived
