(II) Prothrombin
T = Thrombin = factor 2
think of
2 trolls
"Aragorn Troll Ban"
--> argatroban
"Da BIGGA Troll"
--> dabigatran
*DVT treatments
.> 3months of anticoag
start on heparin or other IV
switch later to oral warfarin usully
Factor X
*Extrinsic Pathway
TF7 pathway
--> TF = tissue factor
--> 7 = factor 7 warfarin
EXTRAvascular tissue damage
Factor VIIa
<<
Factor VII
*Tissue Factor
*Warfarin
Vit K Epoxide reductase inhibitor
--> note that Vit K has to be reduced first by Vit K Epoxide reductase
--> then reduced Vit K can be used for the clotting factors 2,7,9,10
*Warfarin vs. Heparin
warfarin = lipophillic
--> crosses the placenta
--> teratogenic
heparin = hydrophillic
--> does NOT cross the placenta
--> SAFE in pregnancy
*Intrinsic Pathway
INTRAvascular
--> platelets
--> collagen from exposed endothelial cells

Factor 11
Factor 12
Factor 9A
(Co - Factor 8)
*Home
*Heparin
MOA = binds antithrombin
antithrombin works at many spots
mainly factor 10 and factor 2 = thrombin = main one for heparin
*LMWH vs Heparin
MOA = binds antithrombin like heparin
--> but LMWHs bind more at the upper factor 10
--> Heparin blocks factor 2 = thrombin more
antithrombin works at many spots
mainly factor 10 and factor 2 = thrombin = main one for heparin
*Warfarin vs Heparin
note think of Heparin as
--> always comparing itself to Warfarin
--> Heparin has big brother complex with warfarin = WAR
--> Heparin is the blood giving nurse in the field hospital INSIDE
lab markers and Exter. / Int. Pathways
warfarin = PT
--> War is fought outside
--> PT = play tennis outside
--> external pathway
Heparin = PTT
--> War = outside and Heparin nurses inside
--> PTT = play table tennis INSIDE
--> PTT = partial thromboplastic time
Lipophillic vs hydrophillic
warfarin = lipophillic
--> WAR is LONG, HEPARIN is SHORT
--> thus can pass through the placenta
--> NOT for Pregnancy
heparin = hydrophillic
--> WAR is LONG, HEPARIN is SHORT
*HITT
