Definition
Prolonged and excessive bleeding at the time of regular menstruation resulting in an elongated cycle
Pathophysiology
Hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids and other contributing factors will result in dysfunctional bleeding which is excessive and prolonged and may lead to anaemia

• Fluid volume deficit related to vaginal bleeding due to disease process manifested by soaked sanitary towels that need to be changed frequently
