CAUSES
Trauma

PHARMACOLOGY
Antiacids
Analgesia
NURSING INTERVENTIONS
Protect oesophagus from ulceration
Manage acid reflux
Give medication antiacids
Nurse patient in a Fowler position
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
Oesophagoscopy (barium swallow)
Biopsy specimen
ECG
HEALTH EDUCATION
Avoid alcohol.
Eat at least two to three hours before bedtime.
Lose weight if you're obese.
Stop smoking.
Elevate the head of your bed 15cm
Avoid bending or heavy lifting
Sit in Fowler position when eating
DIET THERAPY
Avoid foods that trigger heartburn
Eat several smaller meals throughout the day rather than a few large meals.
Eat at least two to three hours before bedtime

Oessophagogastic hiatus hernia
A sac-like portion of the peritonium and part of stomach
Heniates through the oesphageal opening
