Thesis: In the novel “Liking What You See: A Documentary, Ted Chiang explores the idea of lookism. It encompasses racism and discrimination, while it undermines the history and seriousness of the racial tensions and events that have happened which created the idea of ‘race’. As a reader, our universe we automatically factor someone's skin tone with beauty. However, Chiang does mention being ‘race blindness’ was impossible, as a result, he does not convey enough to distinguish between one’s race and the idea of beauty.
