- - - - Convergence: the brain interprets depth from changes in tension of the muscles when the eye is turned inwards (converged)
      - Retinal Disparity: the sight difference in location of visual images on the retina which enable us to make judgements about depth and distance
    - - Accomodation: the flexibility of the lens to bulge to fit close objects on the retina and elongate to look at objects further away
      - Pictorial Cues (H.I.T.L.R)
        
        Linear Perspective: the apparent convergence of parallel lines
        
        Interposition: also called overlap. Occurs when one object blocks another and the blocked object is perceived as being further away
        
        Texture Gradient: the gradual reduction in detail in a surface as it recedes into the distance
        
        Relative Size: the tendency to visually perceive the object that produces the largest image on the retina as being closer
        
        Height in the Visual Field: objects located closer to the horizon are perceived as being more distant than objects located further from the horizon
