Giving praise or punishment for bad behavior in front of classmates can cause the student to create a behavioral problem. However, giving colored personalized notes for praise, good work on assignment, or reprimand for bad behavior privately can allow the student a more focused actualization of their own behavior. A structured emotional support system is a must. This can be tricky as we would want to reach out and hug the student which is against school policy. A pat on the back, high fives, are good ways to give emotional touch while maintaining policy.
