The Central Government who neglected the interest of the other communities in Singapore created tensions between the two governments and strained their relationship. The privileges posed only to the Malays eventually led to more opposition
The Central Government believed that it was necessary to give special privileges to the Malays in employment, business and education, and thus they provided the Malays with free education and even reserved a number of government jobs for them. However, the PAP government focused on providing free education to the Malays to enable them to gain better opportunities in employment. This shows that Malaya and Singapore had different perspectives, causing them to disagree with one another, sparking tension.
