Differentiation strategy
Teacher uses curriculum compacting to challenge students. Example: Students can look up their lexile and choose a short story that is just above it, and analyze the story (and given rubric)
Alternate: In small groups based on lexile, students do the same activity
Students use computers to log into a website called Curriculum Pathways and complete an assigned activity (Example: Read and compare two poems)

Differentiation strategy
In pairs, students watch and discuss a narration/animation of a story and identify story elements seen in story, as discussed in class

Teacher listens to group discussions and asks questions to further check understanding

Students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic (5)
Students struggling with language and are at different reading levels (3)

Review material orally, miming when needed
Students make flash cards to help review information (ie. What is plot?)
