PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
In peritonitis the flow of blood to the inflamed area is increased resulting in congestion and increased permeability of the membrane
This facilitates production of large amounts of fluids containing protein and electrolytes that flow into the potential space , leading to electrolyte imbalances , dehydration , hypovolaemia and in severe cases shock
