ORAL CANDIDIASIS
DEFINITION
A yeast infection that appears as cheesy white patches or plaque on the tongue around mucous membrane of mouth.
CAUSES
Fugus called Candida Alnicans, Candida Glabrata or Candida Tropicalis.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

Increasing development of yeast or oral mucosa results in desquamation of epithelial cells and bacteria and keratin.
TREATMENT

Anti-thrush drugs e.g. nystatin or miconazole in drops, gel or lozenges.

DIET
-
Eat diet that consists iron, vitamin 12 and folic acid.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Thick, white or cream coloured deposits on mucous membrane of the mouth.
