Training Programs
Warm-up
Whole-body activity to increase HR and prepare the body (and mind(psychological prep.)) for exercise. Warm-up muscles to avoid injury
Conditioning Phase
To develop the fitness component that the training aims to develop (e.g. strength, aerobic power, flexibility)
Periodisation
The planning of a training program to reach the optimal level of performance for a key competition. The macrocycle is the plan for the entire year. Mesocycles are smaller periods that focus on a specific training emphasis

Cool-down
Same activity but at a lower intensity to return body to pre-exercise levels. Removal of waste products, speed up recovery, reduce venus pooling, reduce the risk of DOMS. Best time to perform stretching to reduce muscle stiffness because muscles are already warm
Peaking and Tapering
Peaking aims to allow an athlete to reach their optimal fitness to perform at a predetermined competition. Periods of intense training can have a -ve effect on an athlete's performance capacity. It is essential that a reduction in training load occurs in preperation for optimal performance which is known as tapering
