Pelvic inflammatory disease
defination
is an infection of the female reproductive organs. It usually occurs when sexually transmitted bacteria spread from your vagina to your uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. ... The condition might be detected later if you have trouble getting pregnant or if you develop chronic pelvic pain.
pathophysiology
the infection is acute in most cases , the infecting organism colonises the vagina and cervix , causing a low grade vaginitis and cervicitis.the infection ascends to the uterus and fallopian tubes causing endometritis , salpingitis and oophoritis.the endometrium may appear necrotic .
signs and symptoms
Pain in your lower abdomen and pelvis
Heavy vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor
Pain or bleeding during intercourse
Fever, sometimes with chills
Painful or difficult urination

a raised ESR
WBC count more than 10 000/mm3
positive WR test
laparoscopy
nursing management
administer prescibed medication
provide lot of water to drink especially in the presence of pyrexia
maintain patient hygine especially in genital area
wash hands after attending patient
observe vagina discharge and bleeding
monitor vital signs
mantain patient's privacy
health education
importance of good personal hygiene
hand wash after pad check
daily exercising and proper nutrition
instruct on safe sex pratise
causes
Having multiple sexual partners
Having sex without a condom
Douching regularly,
history of pelvic inflammatory disease or a sexually transmitted infection
