Betrayal and Redemption
Baba and Ali, Hassan, and Amir
-
-
-
Baba tries to redeem himself by doing charitable work like opening up an orphanage, giving money to beggars, and saving a woman from getting raped.
-
Amir and Baba
Amir feels like he betrayed Baba because his mother died while giving birth to him. Amir feels this because he thinks that Baba is ashamed of him.
-
When Amir sees Hassan in the alley, he chooses not to help Hassan because he wants Baba's affection. He gets Baba's temporary affection but at what cost?
Amir and Sohrab
Amir tells Sohrab that he may have to go to an orphanage when he promised Sohrab that he would never take him to one. This triggers Sohrab and causes him to try and kill himself.
Amir feels extremely guilty. After, Amir takes Sohrab to America where he can live a life of prosperity.
Amir runs the kite for Sohrab which is the "lower" position. Amir, even though he is middle aged, runs the kite for Sohrab and says "for you a thousand times over" just like how Hassan used to say to Amir.
Sanuaubar and Hassan
Sanuaubar cheats on Hassan's father, Ali.
After giving birth to Hassan, Sanaubar leaves and Hassan is
without a mother now.
Sanaubar comes back to Hassan years later. She redeems herself by taking care of Sohrab and being the mother she never was to him. Sohrab and Sanaubar has an "inseparable relationship."
Amir and Hassan
Amir, being a coward, does not stand up for Hassan in the alley way.
Amir continues to make bad decisions and betray Hassan. Amir frames Ali and Hassan as thieves by putting money and his golden watch under Hassan's mattress. Baba forgives them, but Ali decides that he and Hassan should leave.
To redeem himself, Amir rescues Sohrab from the Taliban and adopts him. Sobrah moves to the US where Amir is living so he can live a life of prosperity.
