- - - - The idealized and unique period known as the 1950’s, the white middle class family became lodged in the sociological imagination as the American family ideal. It was this period of relative peace and prosperity in America during the 1950s and the cult of domesticity that paved the way for the second wave of feminism.
  - - - The third wave represents a shattering of previously held notions. The feminist movement is challenged by women of color, latinx women, lesbians, women on welfare, etc. This breaking apart, resulted in the recognition of many voices, many colors, and many cultures and sexualities.
  - - - First-wave feminism was a period of feminist activity and thought that occurred during the 19th and early 20th century throughout the Western world.
