The Great Gatsby Theme: The misleading idea of the American Dream
Important characters and their significance
Nick Carraway
Nick is the narrator. He takes us through the story and explain the events and other characters. He is close to many of the characters and they tell him secrets and information about themselves. He becomes closest with Gatsby (who he lives beside) by the end of the book and plans his funeral. Nick is not a very rich person
Jay Gatsby
Gatsby was a poor man who always wanted to be rich. He achieved that by participation crime. He loves Daisy, who he knew before the war. She marries Tom and he does everything he can to try and win her back. He later dies because of a misunderstanding.
Daisy
Daisy is married to Tom, but Gatsby loves her. She told Gatsby she would wait for him, but she chose money and status over love.
Setting
New York City, West and East Egg. People with "old Money" live in East Egg (wealthy) and people with "new money" live in West Egg. Takes place in the early 1920s

Nick meets Gatsby at his party
Nick is see Daisy again
Nick meets Jordan
Daisy and Gatsby meet again after years
Tom and Gatsby get into an argument about Daisy
Nick finds out that Tom has a mistress (Myrtle)
Daisy kills Myrtle in a car crash with Gatsby and then drives away

Wilson is told that Gatsby killed his wife, he like Gatsby was the one having an affaire with her
Wilson kills Gatsby, then himself
Nick meets Gatsby father
Only Nick, Gatsby's father and the man from the library attend his funeral
