Educational Technology – Summer 2019
New Technology Solutions
Coggle It! :star:
Students can submit Coggle Mind Maps through the extant Google Classrooms.
I will supply each student with their own copy of a Google Doc (as an "Assignment" in GClass) that has a place to submit (via copy & paste) the link to their Coggle.
Students can either branch out from the center with the Culture (e.g. Mesopotamia) OR with the Characteristic (e.g. Surplus Food).
Kahoot!
Students can quiz each other or make their own study tools as lessons progress.
Available Technology
ChromeBooks
trackpad OR external mouse
Google Classrooms
accessible at school or at home (smartphone or computer)
Students can use this to turn in Coggle assignments.
Google Docs
can easily be linked to Google Classrooms
Promethean board
with speakers
Classroom desktop
with internet access
Problems
Students are bored with and often confused by the state-provided graphic organizer that appears with each new topic.
found on page 7 HERE
Students are not able to make connections across cultures with this worksheet format.
Teachers in St. Charles Parish must follow the state curriculum.
Expectations (struggles)
Students will have a steep learning curve with this new software.
I will give the students time to create a Coggle on any topic they would like so they can learn the software.
I must model this action for students.
Students will be tempted to "play" around instead of adding important content.
I must continually monitor student progress.
Expectations (positive outcomes)
Students will be able to create more connections between cultures through continually adding to this artifact instead of having a new Google Doc with the state-provided template for each new topic/culture introduced.
